What is a Stability Test? 

Stability testing stimulates how stable a desk will be when placed under pressure. In the test, the desk receives far more force than it would during typical use. So if the desk performs well under those conditions, you can be sure it will provide a stable experience for the average user.

Most standing desk users have a lot of expensive technology sitting on top of the desk—a laptop, a monitor, a smartphone, and maybe a desk phone. A shaky desktop could cause one of those expensive items to slip off the desk and break. It could also cause a beverage to tip over and spill, effectively ruining a keyboard, smartphone, or laptop. Not to mention, an unstable desktop that trembles every time the user moves is highly distracting and irritating, which will impede productivity. 

Stability testing ensures that the standing desk kit used to assemble the desk will provide a great user experience to the consumer. Results of Our Stability Test

It’s not enough just to say we make a very stable standing desk. We wanted to test it. We conducted numerous stability tests at multiple height levels to test the stability of our standing desk frames. 

In the left-to-right wobble test, we put two 25-pound weights on the desktop and had our tester put all their body weight into attempting to push the desk side to side. At the 28-inch height setting, the desk did not move at all. At 37.2 inches, there was very little motion. At 47.6 inches, there was some detectable motion, but nowhere near enough to impact the user.

Next was the front-to-back rocking test. Again, we put two 25-pound weights on the desk and had our tester use all their strength to attempt to rock the desk back and forth. At 28 inches, there was no movement at all. At 37.2 inches, there was almost no movement. And at 47.6 inches, again we saw some detectable movement, but nothing that would disrupt a user.
